However much a 'whack' constitutes, we've got a whack of recent reviews for you to peruse.

Founding Editor Tim Challies was the only contributor this week, with six new reviews of a diverse array of books.

I've been remiss in not posting this DR review update until this weekend - Thanksgiving weekend in Canada, as it happens. Aren't you thankful the update is posted now?

We posted six reviews today. No fewer than three are autobiographical, one is biographical, and the remaining two are pleas for Christians and the Church to live more Christianly.

One of my joys as Managing Editor of Discerning Reader is the opportunity to collect our reviewers' diverse array of reviews each week, and to see which topics and themes emerge. This week a major theme seems to be 'brokenness.'

Following an unplanned and unofficial hiatus, Discerning Reader is back with a vengeance this week, posting a full slate of eight brand new, hot-off-the-keyboard book reviews.

One of Discerning Reader's faithful reviewers, currently an itinerant Toronto-area preacher who goes by the name of Ian Clary, observantly pointed out that both he and I had used the phrase "warts and all" in our respective reviews posted this week. That's enough to make me use it as a post title.

Today we present an exciting lineup of fairly influential books. You may disagree with some of them, but their impact - or that of their authors - on the Christian Church in America (and in one case, in the United Kingdom) is undeniable.

The stack of books that Discerning Reader's reviewers have read in the past couple of weeks is so eclectic that I suspect anyone will be able to find suitable summer reading amongst them.
