Mark serves in a full-time capacity as the Senior Pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church. A Duke graduate, he holds the Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, The Master of Theology degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in Historical Theology from Cambridge University. He is the primary author and speaker for 9Marks Ministries and is adjunct faculty both at Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, AL and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.

Dr. Dever serves as the Executive Director for 9Marks Ministries in Washington, D.C. His gifts are well-exercised there as he advises the organization on how to encourage pastors in the local church to move in a more biblical direction.

Dr. Dever has authored several books including a historical study entitled Richard Sibbes (Mercer University Press, 2000), four editions of a booklet entitled Nine Marks of a Healthy Church (Center for Church Reform, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001), and a full-length book of the same title (Crossway Books, 2000). Dr. Dever is also editor of the book Polity: Biblical Arguments on How to Conduct Church Life, a collection of historic Baptist documents on ecclesiology, published in 2001 by the Center for Church Reform (now 9Marks Ministries). Also published in 2001 by the Center for Church Reform was Dr. Dever’s A Display of God’s Glory—Basics of Church Structure: Deacons, Elders, Congregationalism, and Leadership.
